Night Circus had some of the most beautiful language and imagery I’ve read in a long time. The day I read it was a haunting afternoon, and an absorbing one. I mean, just read this excerpt:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
The ethereal tone of the story and its imagery is its main selling point. The plot itself concerns two magicians who use their proteges to battle out who has the better magic. The students, a young woman and a young man, carry out their teachers’ wishes while falling in love…
Best read in bed while it rains outside.
